At Purple House, we are dedicated to promoting sustainability and social responsibility in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. We are committed to reducing our environmental impact by implementing energy-efficient practices, reducing waste, and sourcing sustainable materials whenever possible.
We strive to contribute to Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being by providing support services to individuals and families affected by cancer and promoting a holistic approach to health and well-being.
Our programs and services are designed to improve the quality of life for those facing cancer diagnosis and treatment.
In line with Goal 4: Quality Education, we offer educational resources and workshops to empower individuals and families affected by cancer to make informed decisions about their health and well-being. We believe that education is key to promoting sustainable health practices and improving overall quality of life.
We also aim to support Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals by collaborating with other organisations, healthcare providers, and community stakeholders to create a network of support for individuals and families affected by cancer. By working together, we can achieve greater impact and promote sustainable solutions for those in need. Purple House are members of the Alliance of Cancer Support Centres and have relationships with similar organisations in America.
At Purple House, we are committed to creating a sustainable future for all, and we will continue to work towards achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals through our programs, services, and partnerships.
At Purple House our efforts to be meet these goals include:
- Encouraging all staff, volunteers and clients to use a keep me cup and re-usable water bottles rather than disposable cups.
- We are making a concentrated effort to only purchase recycled paper for our printer, and our company policy is to print everything on 2-sided paper, and only if necessary.
- We recently installed solar panels on the Purple House roof to reduce our energy bills.
- The heating system in Purple House is electric and is controlled by an app, which ensures that the heating is only on when necessary.
- In the Summer of 2024, we replaced all the single glazed windows with triple glazed windows to enable the building to become more energy efficient.
- We have a vegetable garden in Purple House where we encourage the growing of fruit and vegetables. Our Purple House Nutritionist educates clients on food choices.
- We are partners with Food Cloud, and we encourage the reduction of food waste.
- We plan to install a bike park rail in the grounds of Purple House to encourage our staff, volunteers and clients to cycle.
- The Bike to Work Scheme is available to all employees.
- When we travel to meetings and events, we take the train where possible and carpool if public transport is not an option.
- All the lights in Purple House have been upgraded to energy efficient lights, and we are rolling out the transition to light sensors in certain areas.
- A significant number of our fundraising events focus on cycling and activities that do not increase our carbon footprint.
- We are aiming to become a paper-free environment. Digital noticeboards are replacing paper noticeboards in our Centre.
